History

CODI was formed in 1981 during the "Year of the Disabled" with support from the Ipswich City Rotary Club, namely Mr Max Webb and Father John Dobson (President - Ipswich City Rotary Club). In the early years CODI was able to provide assistance (either financial or material) for people who were frail, aged, disabled and transport disadvantaged.

CODI provided assistance with modification to homes by building water lifts and ramps. CODI instigated and established wheelchair access under the CEP Programme to street corners in the City of Ipswich. CODI purchased a wheelchair for customers to use at Target (Booval) along and other smaller nursing home purchases. These are only some of the many projects undertaken by previous voluntary committees. More recently, providing a transport service has become our main objective.

CODI's Community Role

Our primary role is to provide community transport for the frail, aged, disabled and transport disadvantaged. Such transport might be to and from:

  • Non-Urgent Medical runs for doctors and allied health appointments as well as dialysis and QRI (Queensland Radium Institute) appointments
  • day respite, nursing homes and hostels or other designated venues (by bookings only).
  • Organisations/Groups may book a vehicle for outings outside Ipswich as well as locally.

A nominal fare is charged. Payment methods accepted are cash, cheque and direct debit.

CODI is a non-profit organisation. We are partially funded by HACC in respect of transport provided to day respite centres, eg Secondo and Non-Urgent Medical runs but we also rely heavily on the generosity of the general public for financial support.

We also greatly appreciate any ideas or suggestions that you may have to share with us regarding:

  • Fundraising and assistance with fundraising ventures.
  • Mechanical assistance for our buses
  • Assistance with "On Road" expenses for our buses
  • Recipes suitable for the aged and infirmed
  • Ideas for outings or support from local tourist attractions.
  • Any ideas or suggestions that can improve or better the lifestyles of those we help.
